Panchakarma – Pradhan Karma

Vamana Karma
This Ayurveda treatment therapy, following the literal meaning of its name, is mainly about the regurgitation of unprocessed food , ‘Kapha’ and ‘Pitta’ through oral means. Vamana Karma, the Pradhan Karma of the Panchakarma Ayurveda therapy, is also a specific healing for Kaphaja bodily disorders.

A vast range Ayurveda medicines incorporating Vamana are available for inducing Purva Karma beneficiary for mobilizing the Doshas.

Most importantly to remember is that, after Vamana practice, one should avoid shouting, over eating, long times spent sitting down should also be avoided same as walking for long distances or span of time.

Anger, anxiety and coitus are to be included in the avoided list while Ayurveda also suggests also not retaining natural urges.

Virechana Karma
Virechana is the natural herbal remedy therapy for Pitta Doshas disorders through anal passage expulsion.

The process of the Virechana Pradhan Karma is to expel the Pitta from the Amashaya (English; stomach and upper part of the small intestine). This herbal natural remedy is neither stressful nor painful that generally causes no complications.

A considerable amount of resting and a light culinary diet are suggested by the Indian herbal medicine prescriptions after each Vamana therapy.

Basti Karma
Basti herbal medicine natural therapy is one of the major therapies Panchkarma offers. Restoring the Doshas’ balance, this therapy gets its name from the material the same apparatus used in the procedure is made from. i.e. Basti meaning ‘animals’ bladder’.

The Ayurveda Basti procedure is conducted through the rectum and referred to as Niruha Basti consisting in the decoction of the appropriate herbal product.

Anuvasana Basti
During this therapy herbal vitamins’ oil is used for coarseness’ and increase in Vata Dosha and appetite.  The adequate basti is used to treat the following body processes;

  • Proper passage of wind and urine
  • Balance of the Doshas.
  • Feeling of lightness in the body
  • Pleasant feeling
  • Increased appetite and strength

Sirovirechana Karma
Generally the last ctherapy in the pradhanakarma of the Panchkarma series. This therapy involves the insertion of Ayurveda care herbal oils and / or medicines through the nasal canal. Using the nasal conduct, the oils or extracts inserted reach all the segments of the head and its surroundings thus clearing them from Doshas and disorders.
